Newsletter #6 - 5 March 2024

And just like that, assessment preparation is here with our first assessment for the year to be played and written next week.

1. WEEK 8 - ASSESSMENT PREPARATION (MUSIC)

This week we will discuss the topics and work you need to prepare for your test. You will also receive your assessment guide. Please prepare well and take it seriously as this is one of the very few times throughout the year where putting in the effort will be rewarding for the long haul.

2. WEEK 8 - ASSESSMENT PREPARATION (MATH/SCIENCE)

YES! Math and Science students will also be writing a test. This test will be written during your sessions. This is a baseline test and I will be asking things that you are not necessarily using currently with your studies but are crucial to your ongoing success but things you have done before in previous grades and are using currently without thinking about it anymore. Then I will also be asking you questions on the work we and you have covered at school currently. You DO NOT have prepare for this test as I want to see if you are still making the same mistakes that we identified during our sessions or at school and also whether there are problem areas that have sprung up that either me or you are not aware of currently. This will give me a good idea how to adapt our strategy for lessons going forward and for better success at school.

3. STUDENT COMMUNICATION

I want to remind you all that I am a text or a phone call away should you need my help. This is particularly helpful for math and science students. Please make use of me. Don't wait until lesson to tell me of an upcoming test or that you have been struggling the entire week with certain things. The quicker you work with the problem, the faster and easier it can be resolved.

4. OUTSTANDING INVOICES

There are still invoices outstanding for the month of March. Please ensure you make payment before your next lesson to avoid lesson interruption.

5. STUDENTS DEALING WITH SUBJECT FAILURE INFORMATIONAL

I am going to put together an informational for you all regarding struggling students that are currently dealing with subject failure and how to go about increasing your odds of doing better and why it is crucial to have patience and reprioritise for success.

Have a great week everyone and see you soon for some lessons.

"Failure is only postponed success as long as courage 'coaches' ambition. The habit of persistence is the habit of victory." ~ Herbert Kaufman
